Important dates for GCSE and A Level students

Results days in August are always mixed bags of emotions – some students over the moon, whilst others are left wondering what to do next. This year will be no different in than some people will be disappointed, but there is a big difference in the way grades will be assessed, with students initially levelled by their teachers, based on coursework and mocks, before all the grades are moderated using some wonderfully complex algorithm. In short, all those students who were galvanised into heavy-duty revision after poor mocks will be likely to score lower grades than they might have achieved.

As a result, a full range of exams will be available to children to take in the autumn term, if they hope to improve their grades. The Joint Council for Qualifications has now announced the dates for autumn A level and GCSE examinations.

AS and A-level exams: Monday 5 October – Friday 23 October.

GCSE exams: Monday 2 November – Monday 23 November.

The cut off dates for these exams are:

AS & A-level – 4 September

GCSE (except English Language and Mathematics) – 18 September

GCSE (English Language and Mathematics) – 4 October.
