GCSE English

At the beginning of August, I posted a link to a TES article that highlighted Ofqual’s proposal to allow schools to drop one of the texts from 2021’s English literature papers. A lot of folk assumed poetry would be the hot favourite for the boot.

Today AQA have released the detail of their 2021 papers and it appears they have taken a different stance. Poetry will be compulsory and the final text will be either the 19th-century novel, or the Modern Text.

As a Literature graduate, it’s difficult to understand the rationale for this choice. It’s also problematic for teachers who have already taught both of the optional texts.

Whichever texts your child will be studying, give us a shout if we can help. Sessions are filling up rapidly, but there are still a few left.
