and I must apologise for being quiet for so long. It’s not that we haven’t been around but we have been caught up in all sorts of admin type things, as well as going about our daily business of tutoring our young clients. A lot has been going on. Kent Test results have preoccupied many of our clients and we’d like to wish our hearty congratulations to those who passed. Many of our parents have been doing the rounds of visiting prospective schools; having done that 3 times myself I know how bewildering the process can be. I’d like to offer advice but the truth is all you can do is visit as many as possible and remember that your child is the one that has to attend – what may seem wonderful to you might not be the one they feel happiest with.
So what else have we been up to?
Well, migrating the website has been one of the less exciting, but nonetheless time-consuming occupations. I recently attended the Radio Kent Big Grammar Debate, which was interesting (and in parts infuriating) – very impressed with Medway’s Vince Maple, less so with some of the other members of the panel. I also moved right of my comfort zone yesterday, when I called the station to discuss why teachers might be leaving the profession. Now some of our tutors are also still working in the classroom. Others, like myself, have chosen tutoring as our sole career. Are either better placed to serve our clients? I think we each bring differing skills and viewpoints to the business and we share experiences and resources. I used to love working in the classroom but the personalised learning, understanding and interaction that you can build into 1:1 and small group sessions is so much more focussed than in a class of 30 and the rewards (for student and tutor) so much more immediate.
Building up EKT has been a joy. Thank you for being part of the process.
