So back to work we go. In truth, the summer has been pretty manic for us, with record numbers of students preparing for the Kent Test. Both of our Herne Bay/ Canterbury tutors, Sue and Robyn, and our Swale tutor, Kate, have been run off our feet. We believe that our service should continue right through the process and we will be available for Kent Test students right up to the morning of the test – and afterwards should parents wish to appeal the school offered to their child.
Still, it’s now the official academic new year. It’s been great seeing photos of ex-students in new uniforms and looking ready for their new challenges. Back at the drawing board we will combing through materials, looking for changes or new areas that have cropped up. I have drawn up a list of (currently) known topics that arise regularly and there is quite a bit that doesn’t appear on the National Curriculum until Year 6. My views on the appropriacy of testing children on material they haven’t been taught is a whole extra blog post to look forward to. The point is, if your child will be taking the test next year, you need to be aware that there ARE things they will face that they are not familiar with.
Obviously, we believe we tackle these areas effectively. Obviously we would love your trade. If you are looking for a tutor for the 2018 test please contact us as soon as possible, as places are filling fast. However, we know everyone wants to employ a tutor and not everyone can afford one. If it’s the latter that’s holding you back please give us a call and we can negotiate cheaper ways of arranging tuition. And remember, we also deliver parent sessions where we can explain any unfamiliar areas of the test and general test techniques, so that you can give your child ongoing support throughout the year. We can also advise on games and activities that will develop your child’s skills.
Either way, good luck to those who are embarking on new challenges, at a new school, in a new class, or in preparing for tests and exams. May it be a happy and successful year for you all.
