I often have parents asking what certain words mean, like modifier or determiner. To be honest when the new curriculum was introduced a few years back there were a number of teachers asking the same thing. These technical terms cover everyday words we use all the time and until a few years ago using them was enough but the current curriculum requires that the children know their names too.

Most of us can define nouns, verbs and adjectives but determiners and their buddies are less familiar, so I’ve thrown together a quick checklist of some of the more common terms your child is likely to come across and added it to the website under Links and Resources.
