It’s that time of year. Some schools in our area got their out of the way before Christmas, but others are in full swing, right now.
First and foremost – Please don’t panic.
Mock results can be disheartening but there is still plenty of time to turn things around. The secret is good quality revision.
You will hear plenty of opinions on how much time you need to spend revising. The reality is what matters is not simply how long you spend revising, it’s how effectively you use that time.
I’m a great fan of ‘traffic-lighting’ topics:
Green = I’m super-confident with this topic
Amber = I’ve an idea hpw to tackle this but I need to polish up my skills
Red = I haven’t a scooby-do – have I even heard the word ‘surd’ before?
Then you get to work. The green topics can be put to one side for a while. Work on the amber areas, bring them up to scratch before getting some help with the red. Don’t be afraid to ask for help; your teachers really want you to pass – it helps them get their pay rise!
Make revision cards. You want to decide the key points for each topic and reduce them to bullet points that will fit on a card. You won’t remember everything about a topic, so don’t even try. Once you’ve made a revision card, revisit it regularly.
At EKT, we offer one-off revision sessions, where we will show you how to produce revisions cards, focus your revision plan, or plan essays. Please ping us a message if you think we can help.
